Wilderness Torah and Adamah Launch Adamah SF

We are excited to share big news! Wilderness Torah will be joining forces with Adamah, the largest Jewish environmental organization in North America. Together we will be creating Adamah SF, a Community Impact Hub bringing the best of Adamah and Wilderness Torah to the Bay Area and beyond!

Adamah’s mission is to cultivate vibrant Jewish life in deep connection with the earth, catalyzing culture change and systemic change through immersive experiences, Jewish environmental education, leadership development, and climate action. Community Impact Hubs amplify this mission on a local scale through community programming, youth empowerment, and action initiatives.

Wilderness Torah’s earth-based, award-winning youth programs and Jewish cultural teachings & events all deeply align with Adamah’s mission, strategy, and programs.

This new structural integration will enable us to continue our holy work promoting healing, belonging, and resilience. I am honored to serve as Adamah SF’s Founding Director, grateful to continue Wilderness Torah’s powerful work, and excited to grow our impact both locally and nationally through Adamah’s extensive national network, including the two leading Jewish retreat centers in North America (Isabella Freedman in Connecticut and Pearlstone in Baltimore) and Community Impact Hubs in Los Angeles, New York, Detroit, Atlanta, and Baltimore.

“We are so proud of all that Wilderness Torah has accomplished over the past 20 years, and grateful and excited to see that powerful work move forward now under the auspices of Adamah SF. Our mission and values are aligned in our commitment to earth-based, community-based Judaism–so this feels like a huge win. We are eager to see Wilderness Torah programs grow across the bay area, and look forward to offering Adamah’s excellent programs as well.”

Wilderness Torah Co-Founder & Board President

What will Adamah SF do?

Work in three core areas:

1. Wilderness Torah Programs:

Together in partnership with Adamah, we will continue to awaken and celebrate earth-based Jewish traditions through inclusive and intergenerational village-building.

2. Adamah Programs:

Teens: Jewish Youth Climate Movement
College students: Adamah on Campus
Climate Action for Jewish Organizations & Leaders: Climate leadership coalition
Professionals: Jewish Green Business Network

3. Local Strategic Partnerships

East Bay JCC – Jewish environmental education integrated across the JCC’s curriculum for all ages, an exciting partnership model replicable both locally and nationally!
Camp Newman – Hosting Adamah’s ‘ReTreat Yourself’ free retreat for Jewish communal professionals in April 2026,  and exploring a deeper programmatic partnership as well.
Jewish Federation Bay Area – Joining Adamah’s Jewish Climate Leadership Coalition as a local anchor, leader, and partner mobilizing Jewish climate action across the Bay Area.
Urban Adamah – Continuing a longstanding partnership on youth and community programming, hosting and collaborating Wilderness Torah and Adamah SF experiences.
Chochmat Halev – Also continuing longstanding Kabbalat Shabbat services, High Holidays, and community gatherings and rituals  in the East Bay.

Be among the first to fuel the launch of The Adamah SF Hub by making your donation today. We are still locally run, locally led, and locally funded! Help us take this holy work to the next level.

Coming up, we invite everyone to join Wilderness Torah at High Holidays with Chochmat HaLev as well as families to enroll now for our Youth Programs (Grades 1-12) beginning this fall.

B’shalom,

Itamar Cohn

FAQ

Your donation goes to supporting the local work of Wilderness Torah and Adamah SF in the Bay Area. It will be processed by Adamah and earmarked for programs and activities in the Bay Area.

All existing Wilderness Torah programs will continue operating in the East Bay, with plans to invest in expansion to grow participation, forge new partnerships, and scale the programs to new locations around the country.

We would love to go back to offering our multi-day holiday festivals on the land! Together with Adamah’s expertise in immersive experiences, we are building new partnerships, seeking new funding sources and will soon be exploring new business models to make those possible and sustainable again. Stay tuned!

No. While we both trace our roots to the Jewish Outdoor, Food, Farming & Environmental Education (JOFEE) movement, Adamah (which now includes Wilderness Torah) is a national organization with a regional hub in the Bay Area. Urban Adamah is a long-standing East Bay organization based in Berkeley. We honor Urban Adamah’s work and are committed to clear and respectful distinction and maximizing collaboration as we expand our presence in the region.

No and yes. Wilderness Torah always aimed to be an inclusive wide-open tent, and that isn’t changing. Our programs will remain rooted in Earth-based Judaism and accessible to all. As we reach wider audiences with different needs and levels of observance, we will do our utmost to adapt to remain as inclusive as possible, and that may mean offering more options.

Currently, we are keeping our Wilderness Torah website, newsletter, and social media channels, although you may have noticed we have updated our logo to reflect this transition as Wilderness Torah, Powered by Adamah.  For the foreseeable future, we plan to keep our social media channels, however, in the months following High Holidays we do have plans to transition the website and newsletter over to Adamah’s platforms. We will notify our community before this transition takes place.
